Grow It Competition

grow-it-w150-h150This competition, organised by Harvest Brighton & Hove and the Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival, is encouraging businesses of all kinds to grow edible plants in their shops, windows and gardens. This is a great way for businesses to attract new customers, show their support for local food and food growing, and maybe even save a few pennies in the process!

Getting started

A free packet of rocket or basil seeds and a window sticker are available to any business that signs up to the competition. We are also offering plant maintenance and ready-made windowboxes with a wide range of edible plants through our partner, StickItInSoil.

Or go to VegetableSeeds.net for a 10% discount on seeds, just use the code 'AD842' when making a purchase. Magpie Recycling are also selling their green boxes for use as growing containers, only £2.50 each. Contact Sibel, George or Jock on 01273 677577 for more details.

Competition winners

We’d love to see creative and recycled containers and veg growing in unusual urban spaces around the city, to inspire others to give it a ‘grow’! We hope businesses of all types will join in – from bars growing mint for cocktails, to pubs, cafes and restaurants growing herbs or salads to city offices trying out windowboxes or roofgardens. The best displays will be announced at our Local Food Week Picnic in Preston Park during the Food Festival in September.
