Harvesting the ingredients and cooking al fresco in Brighton could be the final challenge for BBC Radio 1 DJ Sara Cox and comedian Rufus Hound who are hitting the road from 14 – 18 November, in celebration of the massive £30m raised each week by players for the Good Causes up and down the country.

The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership and Food Matters have been called to Parliament today (Wednesday 19th Oct) to give evidence to MPs on an influential select committee about some of the city’s pioneering local food projects.

The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership has been awarded funding by the Ernest Cook Trust for a new ‘Harvest Schools’ project. The project aims to improve food growing projects at primary schools in Brighton & Hove by offering termly workshops, networking opportunities, in-depth practical support from experienced gardeners and subsidised materials and equipment for projects.

Brighton & Hove is the first Local Authority in the UK to adopt planning advice to encourage the provision of growing spaces in new developments as part of its commitment to sustainable development. Food growing in urban areas is too often limited by lack of space, but this new advice encourages developers to make creative use of walls, roofs, balconies and edible landscaping at the start of the planning process.
