'No Dig' workshop with Charles Dowding
Saturday, 06 March 2010, 11:00 - 16:00

Saturday 6 March, 11am-4pm

What is 'no dig'?pitchfork

Charles Dowding is a pioneer of organic gardening, particularly known for his ‘no dig’ gardening technique. No dig is a practice of vegetable production with no soil tillage – no digging in compost and manure. Instead the compost and manure are spread above the ground and the seeds or plants are planted directly into that. Charles argues that this method leads to less weeds, more efficient water use and a more abundant harvest. His book 'Organic Gardening: The Natural No-Dig Way' sets out his method in more detail and has become a gardening classic.

What will the session cover?

At the workshop, Charles will give a detailed explanation of no dig practices and show examples from his own garden to illustrate the many possibilities in using this technique. He will also give demonstrations of plant raising and address the economics of selling veg.
