Hello and welcome to the first issue of the Harvest newsletter! This bi-weekly newsletter will bring you updates about the Harvest project and let you know about projects, events, volunteering opportunities, training courses, funding streams and other ways of getting involved with Harvest.
Don’t know why you’re getting this? If you’re a Food Partnership member, we have added you to the Harvest mailing list as we thought these updates may be of interest. You will also continue to receive the usual Food Partnership occasional email updates. If you’d rather not receive the Harvest mailings, you can unsubscribe by clicking the link at the bottom of this message.
Harvest update
Harvest is now one month (and two days) old! Over the past month, we have been laying the foundation for the next three years of the project. We’re developing plans for training, volunteering and mentoring programmes, which will all be launched soon. Also to be launched soon is the 2010-11 round of Good Food Grants, a funding scheme for food projects in schools and community settings. More info to follow in due course.
We’ve been collecting ideas about potential growing spaces around the city and mapping these. These will go onto a big GIS map and will help us evaluate how successful Harvest is in bringing about new food growing spaces.
The Scrumping Project, run by the Brighton Permaculture Trust, has been scrumping like crazy! They’ve already collected fruit from 50 apple and pear trees. Thanks to everyone who’s been in touch to tell them about fruit trees. And if you have a fruit tree that still has fruit, or know of one, please do get in touch via their website, www.brightonpermaculture.co.uk.
Finally, we’ve been working on our website, www.harvest-bh.org.uk - check back over the next month as more and more information will be added. You can read about all the Harvest projects on the website, including details about growing projects you can get involved with now. We will soon be adding seasonal growing tips and other resources to support you in your food growing and local eating endeavours!
